Dermal Fillers

Brand leader Juvéderm® dermal filler injections are a temporary procedure and can last anywhere between 6 -18 months depending on the area treated and the density of the product used.

The treatment can take up to two weeks to reach optimal results. With lip enhancement, it is wise to choose your treatment time with care, since your lips may be swollen and appear slightly uneven for a few days. The results directly after the treatment should therefore not be seen as the final results.

While cosmetic medicine is not without complications or unwanted side effects, we do take every precaution to minimise and limit any complications to offer a safe and comfortable service. As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with the use of soft tissue fillers and reported side effects include but are not limited to the following: pain, bruising, hematoma, redness, infection, itching, discolouration, granulomas, skin necrosis, hypersensitivity, skin nodules and abscess formation and cysts. Each client responds differently to dermal fillers.

All makeup will need to be removed prior to treatment, so please come ‘fresh faced’ if possible. Alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen and a range of dietary supplements including; St. John’s Wort, fish oils, Gingko Biloba, Vitamins C and E- may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided 24 hours before treatment. Treatment cannot be administered if there is an active skin infection, including acne or cold sores or if you are unwell - including colds, coughs, sore throats, etc. Contact the clinic to discuss any illness or new medicines prior to attending.

Most people can continue with normal activities. Some may have some redness or pinprick marks. Bruising after fillers is very common. We recommend planning your treatment around any commitments (i.e. work/ special events) to allow time for any bruising to settle.

The product is generally injected in small quantities and it may be possible to feel the product where it has been injected under the skin but it will settle within a couple of weeks.

If you experience any initial swelling after your appointment, please apply an ice pack to the area. We recommend not touching your face for at least six hours post treatment. Please take Paracetamol if required for pain relief.

Please note that if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the injections could contribute to a further eruption of cold sores.

Do not expose the area to the sun or intense heat including saunas and solariums or extreme cold until the initial swelling has subsided.

We recommend taking homeopathic oral Arnica Montana a few days before and after your treatment. Arnica is well known for its ability to minimise post bruising and swelling.

Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before treatment.

Drink plenty of water after your treatment. Do not lie down or do strenuous exercise for three hours after treatment. Avoid touching the area for at least six hours. Do not have a facial, nor rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours after your treatment.

In cases of bruising:
On average a bruise can last up to two weeks. To speed up recovery you can try the following:

1. Apply ice for 5-10 minutes to the area, three times a day.
2. Eat fresh pineapple as it contains bromelain, which is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bruising complex.
3. Continue oral Arnica Montana to speed up injection site healing and for anti-inflammatory properties.
